I cannot say enough good things about Dr. Self Tape DTLA! Not only is there state of the art video and lighting equipment, and multiple background choices, but JoVan’s coaching takes my self tapes to another level. He quickly grasps the scene content offering insightful notes for creating moments that set me apart and bring out all the layers to any character. He takes his time so I never feel rushed, and is encouraging and motivating so I can deliver my best to casting directors. I especially appreciate the ease and simplicity of booking the actual session. I was able to do everything online and receive email confirmations and important session information. I was hesitant to go to this location near downtown because I am use to these type of things being more centralized near Hollywood or the valley, but how lucky could I have been!

Best decision I made hands down! I have self taped maybe, 200 times in my career since 2019. Easily my best experience going to a self tape audition ever! He was hands on and care about me getting a good performance! He is more worried about you nailing the audition opposed to money!

This is my best experience at a self tape studio. The whole set up is incredibly professional. He makes you look SO GOOD! Seriously. Not only did he help coach me through the scenes, but he also helped me make my slate stand out. He was not afraid to be honest with me and tell me to do another take. He helped give ideas and directions for an amazing second take too. SERIOUSLY you should tape here. You should honestly buy the monthly membership because it is SO worth it!

My experience at this studio has been frustrating for two main reasons.

During my first visit, I had to wait 10-15 minutes past my scheduled appointment, which delayed my entire day. The owner didn't apologize or acknowledge the inconvenience, but I let it slide.

For my second session, I made sure to note the importance of starting on time, as I had a self-tape audition due at noon. Unfortunately, I was delayed by an unforeseen accident on the 101, arriving at 11:10. When I got to the studio, I was disappointed to find another client being served during my time. Despite my prior notice, the owner didn’t wrap up with that client until 11:20, which ultimately caused my tape to be submitted at 12:07—disqualifying me from the role.

To make matters worse, the owner seemed annoyed with me for being late, even though he contributed to the delay. His off-putting energy made me uncomfortable, and it almost derailed my performance.

Both of these experiences reflect a lack of respect for clients time and a disregard for punctuality. For those reasons, I won’t be returning to this studio.
