Update:
I’ve just recently completed the Intermediate 3 (cabinet making) class, which is the culmination of roughly a year at Ebanista and I have nothing but the best, and most complimentary, things to say about this school and the people who run it.

I love it here! And learning under Jonathan has continued to be a phenomenal and rewarding experience.

From making a jewelry box, to making a hand plane, to making tables and cabinets, and learning how to design my own furniture with my own creative voice, I couldn’t give higher praise for Ebanista.

My best advice for future students: Be a sponge! There is so much to learn!

The 6 weeks that I spend taking the Beginner 2 class were the best six weeks of my year so far and learning under Jonathan was a terrific experience that reignited a dormant love for woodworking.

One of the best things about this school is how much the instructors care about making sure that you are developing skills THROUGHOUT the process of building a project. What you build is not the end in itself but the vehicle through which you build and hone your skills as a woodworker. These are the best possible conditions whereby I can learn and apply that learning to future projects.

I have nothing but great things to say and I'm looking forward to the future classes that I've already registered for as well as any new ones that pop up on the calendar.

Sign up before it's too late or you'll miss out!

Just finished the Beginnings 1 class and it was such a great investment. Jonathan was an amazing instructor. Incredibly knowledgeable, patient, and attentive. The class was incredibly well paced and we learned about so much more than just how to complete our project. Jonathan is a wealth of knowledge regarding how to tell which tools are worth the investment, what to look for in difference pieces of wood, and how to improve your skills quickly. I already signed up for Beginnings 2 and I wholeheartedly recommend Ebanista to anyone who wants to learn more about woodworking.

I began attending classes at Ebanista in fall 2022 with zero woodworking experience but a lot of curiosity, and I honestly can’t believe how much I’ve learned in under two years. I’ve completed workshops on sharpening, veneers, and materials prep, and I’ve taken Beginnings I (tray) and II (box), Intermediate I (side tables) and II (bent laminate sofa table), as well as Design Studio. With instruction from incredibly experienced and knowledgeable teachers, a beautiful, well-equipped space to work in, and great classmates, learning and growing my skills at Ebanista has been a true pleasure. If you have the time and financial resources to commit to a class here, I highly recommend it! You won’t find another experience like it in Seattle.

Before joining the class at Ebanista, I had 3 years of woodworking experience, mainly with power tools. Jonathan allowed me to start from the Beginning II class. Both Jonathan and our class teacher Ross Day are super duper experienced and passionate about woodworking. We have 4-5 students in the class. So we all have sufficient time to communicate 1:1 with our teacher. We made a mitered box with a frame and panel lid in this class. Although I have made several types of boxes before, I did learn a lot during the class, from recognizing and handling grain direction, to resawing to make a bookmatch pattern, to fine tuning dimensions with planning and much more. This is an invaluable experience of learning hands-on techs and tips from master woodworkers. I'll definitely join more classes at Ebanista.

I recently completed Beginnings I. It was a great experience. If you have ever had an inkling that woodworking could be for you, this is a great place to give it a try. Our instructor was Ross Day. He is a great instructor and made the class lots of fun. The pictures are of the tray that I made. Give it a shot. I've already signed up for the next class, Beginnings II, myself.

I took Beginnings I with Jonathan Cohen and it was excellent! We started on time, ended on time, Jonathan answered all questions with wit and knowledge, and was very helpful to me - as a middle- beginning woodworker. (I have built furniture with wood but haven’t had any formal training until now) Jonathan also had a number of great stories, which is one of my favorite parts of hanging out with woodworkers:) In addition to hands-on training he provided info on his favorite local stores and sources of wood! Overall wonderful experience and I have already signed up for another 2 workshops and am awaiting the next round of classes to be released!

Oh, almost forgot the star of the class - Oslo! Always so happy to see you and always so attentive when you ask him for his opinion on your work. Never had a bad word to say about anyone!

Signed up for Beginner 1 workshop. Went in not knowing what to expect, but honestly it was a great experience, and cannot recommend this workshop enough. Jonathan makes the class so much fun all the while ensuring safety is the first priority, as it should be. Even when mistakes happen, as they tend to during beginner classes, Jonathan used it to show how most mistakes can be easily fixed.
Got a nice tray out of it that is already being put to work šŸ™‚
My only disappointment is that I wish they had more of the core classes on the weekends!
